ArtBridge Panel Discussion

Organized in conjunction with our exhibition PRESENT POWER/FUTURE HOPES, which featured all 59 artists in our City Artist Corps: Bridging the Divide program, this panel discussion focused on the impact of public art in public housing. Issues relating to community narratives, challenges in programming, and equity in the arts were discussed. Panelists: Claudie Mabry - Moderator, Director of Social Innovation at Kaufman Music Center Paul Deo - Participating Artist Jazmine Hayes - Participating Artist Kendal Henry - Assistant Commissioner, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Beverly Mac Farlane - Resident Leader, Taft Houses The panel discussion was produced by ArtBridge in partnership with NYCHA, The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center. - Bridging the Divide is a series of ongoing artist residencies at NYCHA developments throughout New York City. Through this program, artists engage with local residents through a variety of workshops and create artworks that empower residential narratives. The resulting artworks are transformed into large-scale public art that is displayed on construction fencing and scaffolding sheds within each development. In May 2021, ArtBridge was able to expand Bridging the Divide thanks to a City Artist Corps grant provided by NYC’s Department of Cultural Affairs. We were able to bring our program to 16 NYCHA developments in one calendar year. #ArtVideo #CulturalProgramming #PanelDiscussion #PublicArt #NYCArts #CommunityProgramming #PublicArtist #EmpowerCommunities #NYCHA
