BORIMIX 2023
Celebrate BORIMIX: Puerto Rico Fest 2023 all November! The festival begins with our kick-off event at Teatro SEA and The Clemente, with the BORIMIX Awards Ceremony honoring leaders in the Puerto Rican and Uruguayan community. The ceremony follows with the opening of our visual arts exhibitions, and special entertainment by Latin Artists.
BORIMIX: Puerto Rico Fest makes Puerto Rican arts accessible to a multi-ethnic and multi-generational audience, promoting creative collaboration between Latinx artists. This year is the 18th annual BORIMIX, which features an array of events that include panels, films, theater, literature, music and the visual arts. These events highlight the impact of Puerto Rican identity and arts & culture within the City, Nation, and Hemisphere, as it intersects with other Latinx identities. This year’s edition is dedicated to Uruguay.
Part of this year’s BORIMIX Festival is South-American Performance Art Cycle! The South-American Performance Art Cycle is a program organized and curated by Argentina Performance Art (APA). This cycle transcends Argentine borders to enrich the pan american artistic landscape. Using their bodies as vehicles of expression, the selected artists address critical and essential southamerican issues, such as political turmoil, social inequality, gender, cultural trauma, and more. The purpose of this cycle is to highlight the power of performance art as a vehicle for cultural preservation, resistance, and transformation. The cycle will emphasize the interrelated nature of Latin American artists and their diaspora, building a connection of narratives braided with strands of memory. The “South-American Performance Art” cycle at @TeatroaLatea (Nov.2) & will feature live performances by Arantxa Araujo (Mexico/New York), Natacha Voliakovsky (Argentina/New York) and Pancho Lopez (Mexico) and videos by Marta Minujin (Argentina).
For this edition of BORIMIX there are two exhibitions taking place in our Abrazo and LES Galleries.

BoriGuay: El Cinturón del Sur brings together a group of Uruguayan and Puerto Rican artists to reflect, however broadly/loosely, on some of the remarkable teachings of Torres Garcia and his disciples from the south of America and their influences.
La Escuela del Sur (Torres Garcia, Uruguay) influenced all of Latin America. A new way of seeing, creating, and teaching came about and was shared by committed disciples from Torres Garcia's time to our own day.
Uruguay has made significant contributions to the world of art and design, and several Uruguayan artists have had an influence on the constructivist movement, which emerged in the early 20th century. Constructivism was an avant-garde art movement that originated in Russia and later spread to other parts of the world. It emphasized geometric abstraction, the use of industrial materials, and a focus on the practical and functional aspects of art and design. While constructivism was most closely associated with Russian artists like Vladimir Tatlin and Kazimir Malevich, it had a global impact, and Uruguayan artists are playing a long lasting influence in the movement.

BoriGuay: Off the Grid is organized within the annual Bormix Festival's main exhibition, 'BoriGuay: El Cinturón del Sur.' Featuring artists such as Luis Camnitzer, Gabo Camnitzer, G. Rosa-Rey, and Liliana Farber, all based in New York City. This exhibition's title, "Off The Grid," signifies more than symbolism. It encapsulates the essence of the show, mirroring the artists' defiance of established boundaries, a core theme of the exhibition that challenges conventional territorial notions. By exploring societal systematizations and their influence on our relationship with the land, this exhibition dives into abstraction, innovative technologies, humor, and profound collective inquiries. These works transcend the ordinary, offering fresh perspectives on boundaries and perceptions of things we coin as natural.
