After a sold-out run at the New York City International Puppet Fringe Festival in August, Boxcutter Collective’s show “The Possession of Judy!” returns to Kabayito’s Theater at The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center for 3 more shows this Halloween season!
Show Description:
“The Possession of Judy” - a hand puppet show for the very strange times we’re all living in.
Watch as Judy (a tough-as-nails New York City grandma) rejects the false binary of the left/right political rhetoric, and joins a coven of activist witches to take down the billionaires and tech bros! This hand puppet show correctly predicted Amazon’s attempted move to NYC, the last stand of the Amazon rainforest, the rise of a shadowy network of robot-assisted tech-overlords, and our only hope for the future: angry old women!
More about the artist:
The Boxcutter Collective is made up of 6 core members: Joseph Therrien, Sam Wilson, Tom Cunningham, Jason Hicks, Ali Dineen, Darkin Brown. The founding members met while working at the Bread and Puppet Theater in Glover, Vermont. After creating shows together in New York City for many years in different combinations, they decided in 2016 to formally band together to harness the power of puppet shows for the forces of good. Since then they've been relentlessly creating and performing new work including “Caveman Ballet,” “Everything is Fine,” “Dimension Zero: Brain Robbers from Outer Space,” “The Divinity Supply Company,” and their recent “Happyland! Now!!, In NYC, they have performed at many venues including at La Mama Experimental Theater Club, El Clemente, Earth Church, Coney Island USA, Rubulad, and at the Jalopy Theatre, where they are the theater in residence. They are currently working on their first feature length film, “How to Deal with Tantrums” coming to a screen near you in 2024.
