Claudia Claremi

'La Memoria de las Frutas’, (The memory of fruits), is a large-scale research project about Caribbean fruits and the emotional bonds they evoke in people. The project is a series in which each chapter addresses a specific context or community. To date, it has been produced in Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and their respective diasporas, archiving dozens of fruit varieties through people's memories.

During The Clemente residency, the project will focus on Caribbean communities in NY.

Join us for the Open House New York on October 22 from 11AM to 4PM where the artist will open her studio with:

Informal Artist talk - Presentation of the project The memory of fruits. The artist will share about the journey of the project and the formats it has taken such as video installation, book, 16mm film, photographic series, etc.

Collective Activation of The memory of fruits with a focus on the Caribbean Diaspora, attendees from that region, are invited to be part of the project and share their own memories, personal anecdotes, family stories or reflections on their connection with fruits. These contributions will be part of the research carried out by the artist during her residency at the Clemente.

Participation can be done in both Spanish and English.

This Micro-Residency is part of the ongoing special project “Building Radical Lands/Soil” curated by Sofía Reeser del Rio
