Resident Artist Steve Ellis wins Nationwide Design Contest

Coney Island’s Luna Park opened Today, April 9th and last year resident artist Steve Ellis won a nationwide design contest for the front car of the Coney Island Cyclone. He visited the closed park last summer and hand painted the Cyclone’s front panel in secret. Now that the park is open, the Cyclone’s first rides were offered to frontline workers. Steve Ellis is thrilled to have his artwork on this iconic ride. He states his inspiration came from the effects that the high speeds, turns and shakes might have on the rider’s experience. The peeling layers of text reference amusement park style signage spanning 100+ years. Make sure to check it out!
