HISPANIC ORGANIZATION OF LATIN ACTORS (HOLA)
MISSION STATEMENT
(HOLA) is an arts service and advocacy organization dedicated to expanding the presence of Latinx artists in entertainment and media through the development, education, and empowerment of emerging and established artists. HOLA strives for the accurate, informed, and non-stereotyped portrayal of the full spectrum of Latinx culture and heritage in all entertainment and media industries. HOLA believes that to accomplish this mission, it is vital to create a pipeline for emerging artists to connect with their established counterparts in media and entertainment.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
Over an year ago a team of volunteers decided to save the organization from closing after an administration that focused more on the awards rather than in the service left it with no direction. This new administration volunteered more than 1000 hours of work to recycle the office (almost 50 bags), digitalize the information, take control of it’s finances, update the website and in the meantime create new programming. The path has not been easy as the core group is composed of people in their late 20’s so the change has been slow. Once the pandemic started, the team decided to challenge themselves in a weekly conversation with professionals in the industry free of charge open to everybody. We served 254 people from the United States and other countries of Latin America. We were also going to cancel the awards but the board decided to take the initiative to maintain the HOLA Awards and do it in digital format which was well received.
We are heading into the end of the year with the concept of the HOLA Panels which will be a monthly conference with different professionals in the industry which will focus in different communities like Women, Indigenous, LGBTQA, Afro LatinX to give a platform to all voices within our latinx community
